Powerball jackpot climbs to $674M after three Match 5 wins in Wednesday's drawing

The Powerball jackpot has risen to an estimated $674 million, with a cash value of $283.9 million, after no ticket matched all six numbers in the Wednesday, October 21 drawing. The next drawing is scheduled for October 24.

The winning numbers for the October 21 draw were 1, 21, 44, 50 and 57, with a red Powerball of 5. The Power Play multiplier was 2x. Had a player matched all six numbers, the jackpot at that point would have been worth $639 million, or $269 million as a lump sum.

Three players in three different states matched all five white numbers without the Powerball, each winning a seven-figure prize. According to Powerball's announcement, a player in New Jersey won $1 million. Two other players, in Ohio and Pennsylvania, had added the Power Play option and each received $2 million.

Lower tiers also produced notable payouts. Ten players matched four white numbers plus the Powerball. Six of them won $50,000 each, while the other four had Power Play active and won $100,000 each.

Seven-figure Match 5 prizes have been appearing regularly in recent days. Earlier this week a player in Michigan won $1 million, and a player in Maryland won the same amount shortly before that. Powerball is also now played in the United Kingdom, where players have likewise been winning Match 5 prizes since the game launched there. The most recent seven-figure win in Great Britain was a $1 million payout from the October 12 drawing.

Because the top prize went unclaimed on Wednesday, it rolled over and grew further, with estimates approaching $700 million heading into the next draw.
